How Vision Boards Are Helping Our Youth Imagine Their Futures
We believe in helping youth dream big and taking the steps to make those dreams real. This fall, one creative project has captured that spirit beautifully: vision boards.
It all started when Professional Mentor Steffon introduced the idea to his youth. Together, they spent weeks collecting images, words, and ideas that represented their goals—big and small. For some, that meant pictures of the careers they hope to pursue. For others, it was symbols of family, friendship, and confidence. Each vision board became a reflection of who they are and who they hope to become.
As Steffon’s group completed their boards, their excitement spread. Other mentors began working on similar projects with their youth. Zeyanna guided her youth, Raven, through a multi-step process: shopping for materials, exploring the library for inspiration, and finally bringing her vision to life. When she finished, she proudly declared she would hang it in her room—a daily reminder of her goals and strengths.
These projects have become more than art—they’re tools for growth. Creating a vision board encourages youth to think about the future, set goals, and express themselves in new ways. It also opens space for mentors and youth to connect through meaningful conversations about what matters most to them.
Caregivers have been equally inspired. Many have hung the completed boards at home as a source of pride and motivation, celebrating their child’s hard work and imagination.
Projects like these remind us that when youth are given the time, space, and support to dream, they begin to see just how much is possible.
