June 24, 2025 June Declared Family Reunification Month by Houston Mayor John Whitmire Earlier this month, we had the honor of attending the Harris County’s inaugural Family Reunification Month Celebration, hosted by our board member Judge Angela Graves-Harrington and the 246th District Family Court. Just one day prior, Judge Graves-Harrington was recognized with a proclamation from Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Councilmember Mary Nan Huffman, and the Houston City Council officially declaring June as Family Reunification Month in the City of Houston. “We’re proud to support the incredible professionals working to reunite families and uplift the lives of children across Houston. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing and familiar environment, supported by a strong network of caring adults.” — Mayor John Whitmire June is a time to recognize the strength and resilience of families who navigate the child welfare system in pursuit of safer, healthier futures. The month now serves as a meaningful opportunity to celebrate families who have taken courageous steps to reunify—and to honor the caseworkers, attorneys, and advocates who walk alongside them every step of the way.Reunification can take many forms, including kinship care, fictive kin conservatorship, and adoption by relatives or close family friends. Every successful reunification is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when families are supported and given the tools to thrive. We’re proud to stand with community leaders, judges, and advocates across Harris County in uplifting the power of family. And we remain deeply grateful to Judge Graves-Harrington for her leadership and tireless commitment to preserving and strengthening families in our region. “It was a day of celebration but also a reminder that there is much more work to be done. Reunification is great, but prevention is the key to family preservation.” — Judge Angela Graves-Harrington
