Words & Wonders
A Summer Literacy and Arts Adventure
As we celebrate the end of the school year, we’re filled with gratitude. With your support, our youth have reached meaningful milestones—improving in school, discovering new passions, and building confidence.
Now, we’re kicking off Words & Wonders, our summer literacy and arts program designed to spark joy, creativity, and learning for the children we serve. Through this program, every child enrolled in Friends of the Children – Houston will experience:

- Mentorship and encouragement from a dedicated professional mentor
- Books that reflect their identities and interests
- Interactive reading activities, book clubs, and storytelling workshops
- Creative arts projects, including painting, music, performance, and writing
- Exciting outings to museums, libraries, and cultural institutions
- Outdoor learning experiences that inspire curiosity and exploration
For children impacted by adversity, these aren’t just fun activities—they’re opportunities for healing, growth, and belonging.
You can help bring Words & Wonders to life by donating to support a child's summer:

- $1,000 Trailblazer: Full summer of programming for one child
- $500 Voyager: Summer science and nature experiences for three kids
- $250 Storyteller: Literacy and writing workshops for one child
- Friend: Give any amount to support a summer of learning and creativity
We’re also growing our library!
We’re accepting new or gently used books for ages 4–8 that celebrate kindness, adventure, creativity, and self-expression. Spanish-language books are welcome. (Please avoid comics, horror, adult novels, or books with violent themes.)
Your gift—whether a book or a donation—helps children feel seen, supported, and inspired.
Make your impact today. Sponsor a child’s summer with Friends of the Children – Houston.
