Leslie Griffiths is the newest member to join Friends of the Children, Houston Chapter in January 2024.
Leslie is a proud Afro-Latino and Houstonian. She attended public schools in the area and was part of the first graduating class of East Early College High School in 2010. As a child, Leslie’s form of entertainment was going to the library weekly thus creating a passion for literature. She carried this passion throughout high school and was involved in academic extracurriculars such as Name That Book and Odyssey of the Mind.
Upon graduating high school, Leslie attended the University of Texas at Austin and majored in Applied Learning and Development. While in Austin, Leslie began to volunteer at a local school helping children with their reading skills. After three years. She graduated in 2013 and returned to Houston to become a teacher with Houston Independent School District.
Leslie worked as an elementary bilingual teacher for HISD for ten years. As a teacher, Leslie developed close relationships with her students and families. With her new role as a Friend, Leslie wants to continue helping young children not only succeed academically but socially in life.
